Doctor Slump



Romance is the essence of most of the Korean dramas. But the rich background and a range of emotions they offer makes them very successful.

Doctor Slump has a medical background where 2 doctors become unemployed due to certain circumstances. They meet each other during the slump phase. They become friends, face their mental issues together, rely on each other for emotional support and finally overcome this distressing phase. This drama touches many issues like stress, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which are peculiar in medical field.

Nam Ha-neul is a very sincere and studious girl and keeps on doing crazy things to squeeze extra time for studies. She  gets admission in Seoul's best medical college and becomes an Anesthesiologist. She is too naive to realise what is happening around her and faces extortion at work place. She becomes a victim of depression. Finally she is forced to leave the job. 

Yeo Jeong-woo is one of the top students in his school and is an all rounder. He has a pleasant personality and is kind by nature. He tries to compete with Ha-neul for the top spot but always gets the second spot. He is a Plastic Surgeon and very popular. He faces a medical accident and a patient dies during surgery. He faces a trial for professional negligence and is forced to shut down his clinic. Due to this incident, he develops Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He rents a rooftop room in Ha-neul's building. 

Once you are forced into each other's company, you are bound to develop a bond. Ha-neul helps Jeong Woo during his trial and later helps during surgeries to overcome his PTSD. Whereas Jeong Woo simply teaches Ha-neul that there exists a world outside the hospital and to appreciate the small things around us that give us pleasure and that she should stand up for herself. Ha-neul's family consisting of her mother, uncle Tae-seon and her little brother Ba-Da is warm and support the couple in every possible way and help to lighten the atmosphere. Both of them realise that they are not alone in this journey and move on with their difficulties. 

But that's not all. Their friends Bin Dae-yeong and Lee Hong-ran have their own share of challenges with single parenting and have apprehension about entering into a relationship for the second time. This support cast has their own parallel track and they introduce light humour all along. 

Whether everything that's happening to our hero and heroine is just a coincidence or is it foul play?? So, the story has a villain as well, who is punished by the almighty at the end. They have managed to maintain the suspense till the end. 

In short, the entire series is a rollercoaster ride of emotions ranging from distress, helplessness, anguish, depression, torn state of mind, to happiness, hopes, togetherness, tranquility. This ride keeps you rooted to your seat till the end... Subtle play of emotions... Must watch!!
