Extraordinary Attorney Woo

If you want a glimpse into an autistic person's life then this drama is for you. The main female lead Woo Young Woo is an attorney and has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She cannot mix with people easily, she cannot make eye contact (even with loved ones). She cannot eat any food where its contents are not clearly visible. She counts numbers before entering through any door. She cannot speak fluently.

Even though she has ASD, she is gifted with a good memory especially good picture memory and she remembers all the textbooks from her childhood till date. She is a topper from Seoul National University, a prestigious institution. She loves whales so much so that all her analogies are centred around whales and dolphins.

What sets her apart is her independent way of thinking. She is able to show ray of hope due to her unique thinking and eye for detail. The show depicts 12-13 different stories of how Young Woo handled different legal cases. Every story brings forth different qualities of Young Woo - professional well as personal. But this is not the only theme of the show.

The world is filled with all types of people. Few are good, few are bad, few are jealous, few are considerate, few are biased, few are selfish... Young Woo also comes across all types of people. Even though she is lacking is social skills, she has to deal with all sorts of people and put up with this world. Her interactions with different types of people is another theme of this show. She has an oddball friend, well wisher colleague who supports her. She also has a bunch of jealous and insensitive colleagues who try to suppress her and try to reduce her importance by posting personal facts about her.

She has emotions like any other person. She has her own share of sensitivity and insecurity. She likes her co-worker Jun Ho and dates him. Like any other autistic person she is immersed in herself but is sensitive enough to face questions like whether she will be able to make him happy or will become a burden for him. Will he feel lonely with her? Will he be required to take care of her throughout his life? With all such doubts entering her mind, she even breaks up with Jun Ho. She has a strong sense of independence. She is hurt when she gets to know that she got her job because of her father's acquaintance rather than her merit.

Woo Young Woo is raised by her father alone. She wants to understand what it is like to raise an autistic person. There is a secret around Young Woo's birth. Who would be her mother?? Why she left her daughter?

The world of autism (especially ASD level 1) is handled quite sensitively. It's a 'Must watch' family drama. Overall fast, captivating and impactful story!
