Two Fathers

When I read the name "Two Fathers" I was wondering if this story is about a gay couple. But far from it, it had no LGBTQ angle and it turned out to be nice, warm family drama.

This Taiwanese drama opens with 2 gentlemen - Wen Zhen-Hua and Tang Hsiang-Hsi getting a phone call from hospital to find that a newly born girl was left behind with a letter asking them to take care of the girl. The letter was addressed to both of them by Wen Wen (mother of newly born girl). She was not sure about who the girl's father was and left the girl behind to follow her dream. They decide to take paternity test.

Next we see both Zhen-Hua and Hsiang-Hsi after 7 years, taking care of their daughter Wen-di. So Wen-di is brought up in an  unconventional family of 2 fathers: one Papa and other Daddy. Wen Zhen-Hua is a florist and quiet by nature. Tang Hsiang-Hsi is a successful attorney and quite impulsive by nature. Zhen-Hua is meticulous and disciplined whereas Hsiang-Hsi is can't handle household chores and loves to create mess. He loved to indulge Wen-di with chocokates. However, they have one thing common and that is unconditional love for Wen-di. She is the top priority for both of them.

I love the interactions among 3 of them especially their interactions with Wen-di. As the time passes by the 2 men also grow and mature along with time. They are so adorable and Wen-di has managed to steal the thunder from grown ups quite a few times.

Wen-di is a well behaved and sweet child who is sensitive. Even though she is brought up with so much attention and love, she is missing "mother figure" in her life deep down in her heart. The way she tries to imagine her mother by borrowing face from someone, figure from someone and dresses from someone is shown quite sweetly.

The way her mother had left her suddenly, she appears in their life suddenly. She wants to take her daughter to US along with her. 2 Fathers are reluctant to let go off Wen-di but keeping Wen-di's happiness as the utmost priority, they let Wen Wen meet Wen-di. Meanwhile Wen-di is torn between her a mother whom she always craved for and fathers whom she loved very much.

Will Wen Wen be able to take Wen-di back to US? Will Wen-di accept her as her mother? Will Zhen-Hua and Hsiang-Hsi be able to stop Wen Wen?? This is the main plot of the drama.

Though the family life of Wen-di with her 2 fathers is the main focus of the show, their interactions with their neighbour's like Mrs Chen, Zheng Xiong, love interests of Zhen-Hua and Hsiang-Hsi, strained relationship between Mr Tang and Hsiang-Hsi, Wen-di's teacher Jing-Zhu and her family matters are few of the parallel storylines which run in parallel.  But these storylines have merged well with the main plot.

This drama is full of laughter and very heart warming. From the first episode itself,  it starts spreading warmth.  It's very nice to see fairy tale world of Wen-di and her fathers. The characters are well developed.  Considering 73 episodes, the story moves little slowly, but no complaints. A must watch feel good drama!
