Crash Landing on You


This is one of thw most popular K-dramas. Almost everyone who starts watching K-dramas watches this one. This is a romantic story between a South Korean rich business woman and a North Korean soldier. 

Yoon Se-ri is feom a rich business family. But many times rich families are not happy families. Se-ri is an illegitimate child but adopted in the household by her father. Her step mother is not very happy to see her as Se-ri reminds her of her husband's infidelity. Se-ri has 2 step brothers. They are incompetent, manipulative and are jealous of Se-ri as she is very capable, efficient and even built her own fashion company. Their jealousy reached its peak when their father declared Se-ri as the successor of the Yoon group. 

Captain Ri Jeong-hyeok is deployed in DMZ in North Korea. Though he never revealed his identity, he is a son of Director of General Political Bureau (very high ranking person in North Korea). He is a well accomplished Pianist. He has chosen to join military to unearth the death mystery of his brother.

In one of the paragliding accidents, Se-ri landed in North Korea DMZ and is rescued by Jeong-hyeok. Se-ri tried to run away from this North Korean captain but finally landed in his house. Se-ri is a picky princess when it came to food and was used to enjoy every luxury the money could buy. Uninterrupted power supply, air conditioned house, 24 hour warm water supply, comfortable soft bed, daily meat, choiciest wines, fashionable clothes, luxury cars, branded limited edition jewellery... you name it and she has it. Whereas for Jeong-hyeok and his troops having uniturrupted power supply is also a luxury. 

This story is all about sending Se-ri safely back to South Korea, their failed attempts, coming closer in the process, and falling in love. In all this Jeong-hyeok is supported by his 4 faithful comrades. Se-ri makes friends in the village. They also make enemy Cho Cheol Gang who was also responsible for causing death of Jeong-hyeok's brother.

Other parallel stories also play in the background like Jeong-hyeok's fiancé returning feom Russia with the intention of marriage, Gu Seung-joon who is ex-fiance of Se-ri taking shelter in  North Korea, unearthing death mystery behind Jeong-hyeok's brother, power play of politics and money etc.

The first half of the story deals with Se-ri landing in North Korea and sending her back to Seoul. In the second half Jeong-hyeok and his friends go to Seoul to catch Cho Cheol Gang. Now is the time for Se-ri to host these North Korean friends in Seoul and protect them at any cost. The story has happy but quite unorthodox ending.

I was quite curious why this show is so popular across the globe. Almost every K-drama lover must have watched this show. The North Korean atmosphere and South Korean atmosphere is shown quite realistically. I feel that producers have managed to get every emotion in the right proportion. It has action, it has romance, it has friendship, it has love, it has hatred. The presentation is fantastic and chemistry between the lead stars is terrific. Must watch!!
